  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 celery stalk finely chopped
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce optional
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Assorted crackers or toasted baguette slices for serving

Instructions

  • Remove the skin and bones from the smoked mullet, then flake the meat into small pieces.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth.

  • Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve chilled with assorted crackers or toasted baguette slices.

Notes

  • Wood Selection: Use hickory or oak for a bold flavor, or apple or cherry for a mild, fruity smokiness.
  • Want it spicier? Add cayenne or smoked paprika to the seasoning mix.
  • Best Pairings: Serve with coleslaw, hush puppies, or crackers for a Southern-style feast.
