Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • Rinse the blackberries thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the blackberries and water.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the berries are soft and have released their juices.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  • Using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the mixture into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the solids.
  • If desired, stir in the sugar while the juice is still warm, until it dissolves completely.
  • Add the fresh lemon juice to the blackberry juice and stir well.
  • Let the juice cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
  • Serve the blackberry juice over ice, garnished with fresh mint or lemon slices if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust Sweetness – Taste the juice before adding sugar; if the blackberries are naturally sweet, reduce or omit sugar for a healthier option.
  • Enhance Flavor – Add a few fresh mint leaves or a splash of orange juice for a unique twist on the classic blackberry juice.
  • Strain Well – Use a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove all pulp for a smooth, refreshing texture.
